Hem Chandra Mahato of Palma, Purulia, is a pioneer of Manbhum Chhau. Trained from a very young age under the guidance of his father and grandfather, he became widely known for performances such as Mel Naach and Krishnalila. His lifelong dedication has given Manbhum Chhau a distinct and renewed identity.
